New Developments of Okinawan Studies
In order to sail beyond the conventional horizon of research on present-day Okinawa social structure and culture, it is necessary to integrate latest research achievements in such fields as social anthropology, folklore, politics, sociology, history of thought, history, and linguistics. In addition, it is urged to take the scholastic approach of repositioning Okinawa on the international perspectives map through comparative analysis based upon historic ties with east Asian countries, especially China. The course aims at explaining various cultural issues that contemporary Okinawa faces by examining Okinawa’s political and social structure, and cultural and historic issues with the perspectives of Okinawa being in east Asia.
