ABOUT

This year marks the 63rd anniversary of the founding of Okinawa University. Founded in 1958, it is the private university in Okinawa with the most history. It was founded with the principle of working “toward a university of regional and future co-creation,” and with the goal of raising students to be members of society with the capacity to act independently as key people in their city or region. It is involved in activities that contribute to education, research, and community through its three faculties and five departments: Faculty of Law, Economics, and Management (Department of Law, Economics, and Management); Faculty of Humanities (Department of International Communication, Department of Welfare and Culture, Department of Child Studies); and Faculty of Health and Nutrition (Department of Health and Nutrition). Additionally, the Graduate School of Contemporary Okinawa Studies, also on the premises, includes the Division of Regional Management and the Division of Area Studies of Okinawa and East Asia. The graduate school specializes in policy research on Okinawan industry, economics, management, etc., and regional research by looking at Okinawa as a part of East Asia, and it also uses the benefit of being in the capital to provide continuing education to the public.
